St. Martin’s Day Feast In The Szentendre Open Air Museum
St. martin’s day festivities will be held in the “skanzen” or open air museum in Szentendre as part of the Fall Museum Festival on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of November, with traditional goose, freshly harvested wine, and a fun weekend.

St. Martin’s Day, the 11th of November, is the day of the “new wine”. This is the time when the first batches of wine harvested in the fall have matured long enough to be drunk. This is also when the goose, fattened since the summer is killed. According to local customs, “who doesn’t eat goose on St. Martin’s day starves for the rest of the year”. This is also the last chance for folks to let loose and enjoy themselves before advent, as most christians start to prepare physically and spiritually for Christmas.

The weekend of the 7th and 8th of November, the open air museum will bring these customs to you. There will be craft wines, goose dishes, and of course goose fat pogácsa, a real Hungarian treat. There will also be children’s corners with arts and crafts and concerts and dances for the whole family.
